Judging:

Participants will be judged by 4 “celebrity” judges and 1 randomly picked audience member. Host will pick one random judge from the audience who isn’t affiliated with any participating artists.

Participants will have a limited amount of time to present their work. The judges will then score the piece anywhere from 0.0 to 10.0, evaluating such qualities as performance, content, and originality. The high and low scores of each performance are tossed, and the middle three are added giving the performer their score. Points are deducted for violating the time limit. Top scorers advance to the next round.  Each round will be judged on a clean slate.  There will be no cumulative scoring.

Round 1: Three minute piece.  13 Participants will perform an original poem or monologue on any topic within the 3 minute time frame.  A ten second grace period will be allowed. Anything after the ten second grace period will result in a time deduction. Top 7 performers will advance to Round 2.

Round 2:  Two minute themed piece.  7 Participants will perform an original poem or monologue within the 2 minute time frame that will cover a pre-selected theme that they will be aware of in advance.  A ten second grace period will be allowed. Anything after the ten second grace period will result in a time deduction.  Top 5 performers will advance to the Final Round.

Round 3: Death Match 1 minute piece. 5 Participants will perform an original poem or monologue on any topic within the 1 minute time frame.  A ten second grace period will be allowed. Anything after the ten second grace period will.  One Grand Prize Winner will claim the $500 prize.

Consolation Prizes:  The non-winning poets will be called to the stage and presented to the audience holding numbers.  Audience will text or write one silent vote for their preferred artist.  Poet with the most votes will win a consolation prize. The process will be repeated for the non-winning actors.
